Reception – Ladybirds RL
Teacher: Hibaaq Sheek
Class TA: Ginny
Welcome to our class page. Please find some helpful information below.
Reading
The children will be given two reading books to take home each week:
- A phonics book
- A reading for pleasure book
The phonics book will be matched to their current phonics learning. For example, they will take home a 'set 6' book when they are learning these sounds (y, x, ch, sh, th, th) and they will progress through the sets following the sound progression of Jolly Phonics.
The reading for pleasure book is for the children to enjoy reading with an adult or someone else at home. It is not expected that they will be able to read this independently as they may not have learnt all of the sounds that the book contains.
These books will be changed every week. Please ensure that their reading record and both books are in their bag ready to be changed on this day.
PE Day
Thursday
PE kit
Children are no longer asked to bring in kits, they just need to come in suitable PE clothes on their day.
Spare Clothes
Please ensure your child has a spare set of labelled clothes in school at all times. This is to be kept on their peg. If the spare set comes home to you dirty, please do ensure it is replenished with a new set as soon as possible.
Snacks
There will be a piece of fruit or vegetable available every day for your child. However, if you wish to pack an additional snack for them to eat during morning playtime, it must be raw fruit or veg. Please encourage your child to put it in their tray when they arrive at school in the morning.
Home Learning
We provide a home phonics sheet daily to share the way we teach phonics at school so that it can be repeated at home. This is to help keep parents and carers informed of what sounds are being learnt, as well as aiding the retention of these for children. It is helpful if these are completed fully, including a focus on children reading the words on the sheets. There is no expectation for the homework to be returned.
Every Friday, the Reception newsletter will go onto the school website. On this you can find details of our learning during the week, along with any key dates and information you need to be aware of and suggestions for activities to support your child’s learning at home.
