Resources for Parents and Families
The SSA
The Sheringdale School Association exists to organise fund-raising and fun. We have two big fund-raising events each year, the Christmas and Summer fairs, when we try to get everyone involved with stalls, games, and food and drink. There's at least one Family Fun event which simply covers its costs; and sundry other activities, depending on how much we want to raise and how much we have available to spend.

Absence
Sheringdale's Governors and Head discourage the practice of temporarily removing children from school during term, as this disrupts not only the child's own education, which is a serious matter, but also the routines of his or her class, and that clearly has implications for the rest of the pupils. Naturally, we recognise that there are cirumstances in which families have little choice and we will be sympathetic in such cases, but we do ask parents to try to avoid booking holidays that fall wholly or partly in school time.
In all cases, however, absence must be authorised in advance by the Head, Mrs Morgan. If a child is absent without leave, either because a request has been refused or none has been submitted, it will be recorded as an Unauthorised Absence and the offending parents or carers can expect at the very least an Uncomfortable Interview – a prospect calculated to blight the sunniest holiday.
We have changed the system for requesting absences, or rather introduced one to make the whole process more businesslike. There is now a request form, available either from the school office or as a download via the link below.
